KA's Notable Members

Since the beginning of existence, The Kappa Alpha Society has produced countless members who have reached the higher echelons of today’s structural world. These Kaps have filled volumes of records to become CEOs, members of parliament, professors, judges, lawyers, doctors, engineers, bankers, entrepreneurs, and religious leaders. The following are some Kaps who have played a pivotal role in shaping today’s society:

William Lyon Mackenzie King, VT’1895: Prime Minister of Canada (1921-1926, 1926-1930, and 1939-1945).

John P. Labatt, VOO’48: Founder of the Labatt Brewing Company.

James Bertram Collip, VOO’48: Dean of Medicine at UWO (1947-1961), discoverer of cortisone and co-discoverer of insulin, and shared John James Richard Macleod portion of the 1923 Nobel Prize for medicine.

Arthur Labatt, VM’53: Chancellor of UWO (2004-2008), Officer of the Order of Canada (1996), and Founder of Trimark Investment Management (1981).

James L. Thayer, VOO’54: Past-President of Neuchatel Junior College in Switzerland.

Donald Ross Getty, VOO’55: Premier of Alberta (1985-1992), Quarterback of Edmonton Eskimos (1955-1965), Quarterback of Western Ontario Mustangs Football, and Member of Western Mustangs Basketball.

Coulter A. Osborne, VOO’55: Appointed to Supreme Court of Ontario (High Court of Justice), Member of Canadian Olympic Basketball, and Member of Western Mustangs Basketball.

Douglas L. Earle, VOO’59: Company Founder and President of HA Kidd & Co., Ltd.

John M. Thompson, VOO’61: Chancellor of UWO (2008-2012), Chairman of the Board of TD Bank (2003-prescent), Board member at Royal Philips Electronics N.V. and The Thompson Corporation (2003-prescent), Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Hospital for Sick Children (2008-present), and Director of Atlantic Salmon Federation (2008-prescent), Vice Chairman of the Board of the IBM Corporation (2000-2002).

John C. Pattison, VOO’66: Senior Vice-President, Treasury and Risk Management of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC).

Timothy H. Conroy, VOO’87: Chairman and Company Founder of Kubra Transfer.

Shaun McIver, VOO’94: President and CEO of Streamlogics.

Paul T. Davenport, VOO’06: President of UWO (1994-2009), Officer of the Order of Canada (2002), President of University of Alberta (1989-1994), Professor at McGill University (1986-1989).
